how much would it cost for me to install a new gutter system on my roof that could generate energy from the water going from my roof the the ground with small hydroelectric generators?

This device has yet to be invented and would only offer marginal pay back unless you live where there are frequent monsoons. Keep thinking as this is how inventions are generated.

    That would not be practical. You could put a water driven wheel below a downspout from the gutters if it rained continuously 24 hours a day. But you would not get enough generation from the brief flow of water from the average rainfall to create any worthwhile power source.

    If you get enough rain to make such a generator practical, your gutters are nowhere near sufficient to route the rainwater from your roof away from your foundation.

    This very dependent on the local labor rates. It is the newest of the green technology applications to generate electricity. Just how practical it is is very dependent on your water flow and the total initial cost. Contact some of the local electrical contractors and ask for information about the systems. You might also inquire of the local Electrical workers union. In the Seattle area, the IBEW is training personnel for these type of installations.
