   well in a general sense you need a gas motor right? or you could use wind or water if you wanted to. Next you would need to turn that motion into a rotational motion that goes to an alternator. (not the car type) That would then need to have a voltage,frequency, and current regulator, most come with them right in the alternator itself. Then wire that to a fuse or breaker disconect. Then wire an outlet or 2. Presto your done. Its more technical then that but thats basicly it.

   I’m not sure from your question what you want to make, the generator itself or a system that generates power?

   The generator itself would be very difficult for home production. Take apart a car alternator or starter motor (which would work as a generator) and see whats involved. Using these same items to generate power from another source such as wind is perfectly reasonable to do with directions how available on the Internet.
