This DIY wind turbine blade is hooked to a 180 Volt Leeson 3.8 Amp Permanent Magnet Electric Motor acting as a generator. Maximum voltage recorded at ground level was 27 volts. Maximum Watts produced was 43 watts.

give us a model number of motor please.thank you for your great work
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE please explain how to setup fishing line.thanks
what kind of inverter is that your using?
ive looked everywhere and cant find a similar one
Thanks

CAR ALTERNATORS create AC current but have a set of Bridge Rectifiers to convert to DC. AC generators generally do not have magnets and require an EXCITER.

AC motors do not work as a generator. An AC induction motor can but you only get about 25% back out after modifications (1800 rpm+). Also any AC from an Alternator, or Axial Flux Alternator. The AC current from Smaller wind turbines is basically useless UNLESS you run it to a “Bridge Rectifier” which converts the random AC voltage to random DC voltage which can be stored or used by an inverter.
If you try to hook AC from an Alternator, you will destroy what every AC appliance you hook it to.
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE , wouldn,t you want to use an ac motor so you could get strait ac power and avoid having to spend extra money on an invertver, because from my knoledge an ac motor works as an alternator in reverse.
where can i get from that dc motor?
If you go to major amusement parks, they use fishing line because it keeps birds away from food areas. They think the line makes a noise they hate. Works better than wire. Never tried it on a wind mill but our pond had it and it really worked.
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE Fishing line guard?
I was curious, as this is all still new to me, do the charges (volts) have to be consistant in order to charge a battery? How exactly does that work?
Blades are easy on a table saw,,,
I made a wind mill in the 80,s was cool.
I would love to see you do an episode on making blades.
Your gonna get hurt Dan……………..
Didn’t look like a grid tie inverter to me. Looks like a cheap Chinese modified sine wave unit. Cool experiment though.
You could make a load of them and just run your own wind farm and make money putting it back on the grid he he!
He really needs a microphone. but still give him and his vid 5 stars! Nice one Dan you are an inspiration!
All GTI’s are Island protected and cannot back power in a black out. It is also almost impossible to power a neighborhood watch this, it explains

First this is simply my personal opinion. It’s great to share the knowledge of renewable energy, but home made devices along with self installation can cause damage to persons and structures. Putting power back onto the grid should require proper electrical switches to shut power when the grid itself is down. I share the enthusiasm as the presenter of this video, but let’s keep everyone safe. Follow local codes, save a life and our country.
@GREENPOWERSCIENCE
I don’t see where the original comment is that this pertains, but you technically could use an AC motor if connected to a rectifier. (A car alternator is essentially an AC motor producing pulsed DC using a series of diodes (rectifier)). For what its worth.
Keep up the good work,

@cyberyiyo A car alternator requires thousands of rpm’s to produce power. The lower the rpm rating of the dc motor the easier it is to generate electricity with.
I still like the wind mills that face the other way. Upright wind vanes and so on. You get those setup right and you could drive two or three of those at some good speeds. Especially if you were to use different size pullys.
so what is the process for storing or using after generating,??
can we use electricity direct after generating ???
i mean to say without any battery or any thing else?/
I would really like to know where you got that grid tied inverter… I can’t find those things anywhere new, and all the places that sell them seem to be backordered without a ETA of when they might be getting some.
